For this school project, we had to recontextualize themes. I combined the concept of chopped and screwed with the singer Kelela and created a fanzine from it. My main focus was to capture the cultural essence of the chopped and screwed scene, with all its characteristics, and to ask myself questions like: WHY
Why are minorities systematically never taken seriously?
Why do only the rules of a privileged man count?
Why is rap still stigmatized and systematically not taken seriously as art, even though it’s the system that shapes the people?
Why does it have to be enjoyed by the white man for it to be taken seriously?
Why do financially privileged people often depend on rules in art and feel the need to control and structure everything?
